Following In The Footsteps Of Apostle Paul

FOLLOWING IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF APOSTLE PAUL

On a recent senior class trip to Greece, a group of Joshua Expeditions students were able to walk in the very footsteps of the Apostle Paul and view firsthand the locations of his ministry. During a visit to Mars Hill, known as the center of economic and public life in ancient Athens, one of the students read from the book of Acts and thoughts turned to the very moment in time when Paul stood on that same site and spoke those very words to the people of the city. One can’t help but wonder what was different back in the days when Paul ministered there. Why was he compelled to walk for days on end just to share the Gospel to anyone who would listen while in these modern days people complain about an hour-long drive in a comfortable vehicle? Was Paul not as smart as people today? Could he not figure out a better way to get where he was going or was getting there not as important to him as the task at hand? When these questions were posed to the students in Athens their answers were surprising and encouraging. They thought that Paul was just as smart, if not smarter, but also more focused because he had met Christ personally. Paul was on a mission, and any distractions paled in comparison to his calling to share the Gospel.

Now the question is, why are those of us who have also met Christ not as focused and committed to sharing the Gospel today? The JE students believe it is because our current world has far too many distractions. How true that is! May each one of us pray daily to clear our minds and reject the distractions that keep us from being able to focus on our shared calling to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ to every nation.
