The Effects of History

We tend to forget how history has shaped us and how it paved the way for many. Some pass down history from generation to generation through stories or photographs. For some, it is easy to forget years of advance in technology during the industrial revolution, or the famine during the depression, or even when wars raged and family was lost during the world wars.  A group of students saw how the effects of history, that may have been forgotten,  were beyond what they realized.

“We were at the Jefferson Memorial in the afternoon when a group was doing a video of martial arts moves. Our group watched and then clapped when they were finished because they were very, very good.

The martial arts group was from a Christian school in South Korea just north of Seoul. They were here for a mission conference and performing that evening. The kids spent about 20 minutes talking, mingling, and laughing. It was wonderful!

Their group leaders thanked us Americans for helping their country during the Korean War. He got very choked up. Then our group leader wanted to have prayer time with their group. So we all circled up, intermixed, and had a prayer in English and Korean. It was quite moving.”

The choices of family members and friends before them, had the biggest effect – sacrifice. Something remembered still to this day. The decisions we make today, have an impact, beyond our selves.

In Colossians 3:15-17, the author writes, “And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

Because of the Lord’s finished work, let us take up Christ as our identity and motivator, using every moment to affect other people for generations to come all for the kingdom.
