His Eye is on the Sparrow

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?…” Matthew 6:25

For anonymity purposes, we will reference the young woman as “R”.

“R” was from a poor village in Nepal and was the oldest child in her family. When her family was drowning in debt she, being moved by compassion, set out to find work.

“R” had a friend who said she could get her a job at a hotel. Upon arriving, she was persuaded to engage in sex trafficking. Though she was terrified, she was also desperate and so she agreed. “R” told her parents she had found work at a bank and began sending them sums of money.

One day a man offered “R” 100,000 rupees (approx. $760) to work in India. As she was getting ready to cross the border, our partner’s border surveillance team stopped to interview her. The team quickly took “R” to the transit home to continue counseling her and contacted her parents. Her mother came immediately to console her daughter.

After “R” felt safe enough, she provided information that allowed Nepali police to raid the hotel where she had been working to rescue another four young women. After a thorough investigation, the owner was charged with human trafficking and is currently being prosecuted.”

One of the most beautiful reminders that scripture echos is “He cares.”

Matthew 6:26-33  continues,

“Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

His eye is on the sparrow. The Lord cares about our worries and never leaves us to fight alone. The Lord cares for “R” and He cares for you.
