Unexpected Blessings in Costa Rica
The Lord Establishes Our Step For His Glory
Due to security concerns in the region, a group’s trip to Mexico was canceled. While this pivot was unexpected for the group, it was not unexpected for our God. Because of timing restrictions and many other house-build projects already taking place that week in the region, the nature of their mission work pivoted to an unexpected demographic: a daycare center in Costa Rica.”
One day, the group was at a park, and the students started talking about sharing the gospel with the locals. A teacher from the group challenged one of the students to share the gospel with a guy nearby. She did, and he responded that he was an Atheist who had been dealing with some difficult issues. The night before, he had told God, “If you’re real, send me someone.”
The very next day, he met this group of students reaching out to him. He couldn’t believe it and posted his experience on Facebook. The head of the daycare center, who happened to be a mutual Facebook friend, saw the post and let him know that the students were helping her at the daycare center. He showed up the next day, and the students had even more opportunities to minister to him. After witnessing this incredible scene, the school’s principal admitted that “God’s plan for us was not Mexico but Costa Rica.”
The Lord is continually writing our stories in ways that we may not see in the moment. This is extremely evident throughout Scripture, and one of our favorite examples of this is in the story of Ruth. Ruth’s husband dies however, she continues to stay beside her mother-in-law, Naomi even though no responsibility or tie to her remained. Because of her faithfulness, Boaz shows favor to Ruth, and furthermore, the Lord includes her in the genealogy of Jesus.
Despite our circumstances or plans, the Lord can use our interrupted plans for good. He establishes our steps and puts us where we need to be. We only need to be obedient to His call.
