Thank You, Teachers!

It was over 35 years ago now when my family, similar to thousands of others, had to flee our home due to an unforeseen revolution in our country. When we moved to a small town in the United States, I could not speak English and had zero friends. Going to school each morning was a frightening ordeal and the only thing that helped me get through the day was my math teacher. I can’t remember her name but she was the daily source of comfort that I needed. Although we didn’t speak the same language, she was patient enough to communicate with me slowly and was always there when I needed her! Since then, she has helped thousands of other students and I know she’s not the only one.

Teachers have been there for their students for generations, a constant during a trying and tumultuous time. Now with all of the difficulties created by the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers continue to show up, working even harder than before, constantly adjusting their lesson plans, and doing it all with big smiles and high energy that makes these kids feel safe. Just like my teacher did for me.

Thank you teachers for all you do and for how you continue to fight to put your kids first. Whether it’s leading a class trip around the world or over daily Zoom calls, your devotion to your students and your love for your profession is evident in everything you do. Your efforts are seen and we deeply appreciate you!
